GIZ: Development of an IT tool for collecting aggregated results data

Mainlevel’s Contribution

Mainlevel is currently supporting the Evaluation Unit and IT-Department of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in the development of a web-based tool to collect aggregated results data. GIZ uses the aggregated results data to demonstrate the effects of GIZ’s work on a global level, helping the company to illustrate its outcomes in public.

To increase the efficiency of collecting and validating the results data, GIZ has decided to develop a web-based tool through which data is entered by project managers around the world, subsequently validated by sectoral experts and aggregated across the whole company. The tool ensures greater standardisation of the data collection, links results data with project data, reduces sources of error and, hence, leads to higher quality of data.

Two Mainlevel consultants are supporting the development of the web-based tool by providing the following services:

  • Business analysis and requirements engineering;
  • Identification, analysis documentation and management of requirements;
  • Methodological input on indicators, estimation methods and questions;
  • Definition of plausibility checks and ways of calculation for aggregated data;
  • Support in agile project management (sprint planning, estimation of user stories, sprint review, retrospective);
  • Testing of the IT system.

GIZ plans to use the tool for the collection of the company-wide results data in summer 2018.
